Aged Care tops the urgent list
Aged Care Training Services
Nursing’s leading experts say services for the elderly will be the profession’s top priority in 2014.
In an article published by Amie Larter it states that both Nursing organisations and professionals from around Australia are agreeing that aged care will be one of the biggest issues on the agenda in 2014.
Acting ACN CEO Kathleen McLaughlin suggested that measures are needed to ensure that residential aged-care services have appropriate staffing, including professional nurses with the right skill mix at all times. She has called for an independent study in 2014 of options for funding aged care in the future.
As well as aged care being the hot issue for this year, other areas of interest to experts include:
- Getting graduates jobs – Australia is faced with a shortage of 109,000 nurses by 2050
- Primary Healthcare – improving access for the community overall
- Public perception of nurses – promoting what it is nurses do and educating the public about aged care in general
